Paul Gascoigne settles his defamation and privacy claim against the Daily Star and the Daily Express. The Daily Star and the Daily Express had on their websites posted a video of Paul Gascoigne in a drunken and muddled state.

Further stories made statements concerning his private life and raised matters regarding his financial situation.

He was unaware that a video was being made, it was filmed, by a man called Shane Abbott, in the early part of February last year in his flat near Hastings, East Sussex. During this time, Paul Gascoigne had relapsed into alcoholism . As well as filming the video, Shane Abbott sold to the newspapers information relating to Paul Gascoigne’s personal life and financial situation and the video.

Mr Gascoigne isuued proceedings and the claim was due to be listed for trial in July but the case has now settled with the Newspapers paying him damages and his legal costs.
