Court Statistics Published

Quarterly court statistics have been published on the average length of civil cases.

The court statistics for the period July-September 2011, shown on average:

  • Court proceedings took 55 weeks;
  • Hearings for small claims (for claims under £5000) in civil courts took place 30 weeks after the claim was originally made. It was 57 weeks for high value cases.
  • Criminal cases were completed 150 days after the offence.

The Courts Minister Jonathan Djanogly said of the court statistics,

“The figures released today show that sometimes the courts process can simply be too time consuming. That is why we have a comprehensive reform programme under way”
